Design an App for Social Good

THE PRODUCT: The idea behind Refined Space is to combine the services of an interior decorator and a contractor. Refined Space can help fix monumental issues and improve the lives of diverse communities by allowing users to update their space, no matter how big or small the task may be.

THE PROBLEM: My mom has served as an inspiration for this project involving designing for social good. She lives by herself and has difficulty making minor updates to her home like painting a wall, putting up a mirror, or changing a light fixture. Research found that most interior design companies only offer large scale renovation services, and most contractors lack interior design skills.

THE GOAL: To create a simple, easy-to-use mobile app that allows users to quickly contact the Refined Space team to initiate the process of updating their interior space.

RESPONSIBILITIES: I executed the design process from beginning to end by empathizing with users, defining their pain points, coming up with ideas for design solutions, creating wireframes and prototypes, and testing designs to get feedback. User personas and journey maps revealed that most users are older and have limited motor function.
